What is the

Northern Valley Greenway?

The Northern Valley Greenway Project

The NVG project’s goal is to convert the unused CSX rail line from the southern border of Tenafly to the northern border of Northvale to a linear park with pathways for walking, jogging and biking, including amenities such as: comfortable seating, exercise stations, food and drink kiosks, dog parks, gardens, sculpture displays and more. This conversion of private land into public land, would create a 56 acre linear park almost 8 miles long.

The existing dilapidated train tracks, which haven’t been used in almost 20 years, are broken and dangerous.

To build the NVG, the land must be purchased from CSX Transportation and adhere to federal regulations that control the transfer of land for rails-to-trails projects. After that, some of the main steps of the project include the removal and capping of the tracks, enhancing the land for control road crossings and designing and building an attractive park atmosphere with provisions made for on-going maintenance.

The process to create a greenway is a long one, but with so many residents from the surrounding communities working together, we know it will happen.
